These savory-sweet baked beans are the perfect addition to any BBQ or picnic. The combination of smoky bacon and rich brown sugar creates a flavor sensation that will have everyone coming back for more.

  • 6 slices of bacon, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) of navy beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the diced bacon until it becomes crispy and the fat has rendered, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set it aside on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease.
  4. In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add the diced onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked bacon, sautéed onion, drained navy beans, ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly distributed.
  6. Transfer the bean mixture to a baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
  8. After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the beans are hot and bubbly and the top is slightly caramelized.
  9. Serve hot as a side dish alongside your favorite BBQ meats or grilled vegetables.
