Baked Potato Recipe

A classic baked potato is a simple yet delicious dish that can be enjoyed on its own or as a side to various meals. It’s crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, making it a versatile addition to any meal.

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • Optional toppings: butter, sour cream, chives, shredded cheese, bacon bits

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the Potatoes:
    • Scrub the potatoes thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt.
    • Pat the potatoes dry with a clean towel.
    • Use a fork to poke several holes in each potato to allow steam to escape during baking.
  3. Season the Potatoes:
    • Rub each potato with olive oil, making sure they are evenly coated.
    • Sprinkle each potato generously with salt and pepper.
  4. Bake the Potatoes:
    • Place the potatoes directly on the oven rack or on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil for easier cleanup.
    • Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork. The exact baking time will depend on the size of the potatoes.
  5. Serve:
    • Remove the potatoes from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes.
    • Cut a slit down the middle of each potato and gently squeeze the ends to open them up.
    • Fluff the inside of the potatoes with a fork.
  6. Add Toppings (Optional):
    • Add your favorite toppings such as butter, sour cream, chives, shredded cheese, and bacon bits.
  7. Enjoy:
    • Serve the baked potatoes hot and enjoy them as a side dish or a main course.

  • For extra crispy skin, you can also sprinkle a little garlic powder or other seasonings on the potatoes before baking.
  • If you prefer a quicker method, you can microwave the potatoes on high for 5-10 minutes before finishing them in the oven for about 20 minutes to get the skins crispy.
