Baked Potato with Cheese Recipe

A delicious and simple recipe for a classic baked potato topped with melted cheese, perfect as a side dish or a comforting main course.

  • 4 large baking potatoes (such as Russet)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite cheese)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Optional toppings: sour cream, chives, bacon bits, green onions

  1. Preheat Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Prepare Potatoes:
Wash the potatoes thoroughly and pat them dry with a paper towel. Use a fork to poke several holes in each potato to allow steam to escape during baking.
  3. Season Potatoes:
Rub each potato with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt and pepper. This will help the skin get crispy.
  4. Bake Potatoes:
Place the potatoes directly on the middle rack of the preheated oven. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and a fork can easily pierce through them.
  5. Add Cheese:
Remove the potatoes from the oven and carefully cut a slit in the top of each one. Gently squeeze the sides to open up the potato. Place 1/2 tablespoon of butter into each potato, then evenly distribute the shredded cheese on top.
  6. Melt Cheese:
Return the potatoes to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve:
Remove the potatoes from the oven and let them cool slightly. Add any optional toppings such as sour cream, chives, bacon bits, or green onions. Serve immediately.
