  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

For the sauce:

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper.
  3. Dredge the chicken pieces in cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
  4. Dip the coated chicken pieces into the beaten eggs.
  5. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  6. Fry the chicken pieces in the skillet until they are golden brown but not cooked through. This should take about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  7. Place the partially cooked chicken pieces in a single layer in a baking dish.
  8. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, apple cider vinegar, ketchup, soy sauce, and garlic powder to make the sauce.
  9. Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, stirring the chicken every 15 minutes to ensure it is well coated with the sauce.
  11. Once done, remove from the oven and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.
