    • 2 carrots, finely chopped
    • 2 celery stalks, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 500g ground beef
    • 250g ground pork
    • 1 cup red wine
    • 800g canned crushed tomatoes
    • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
    • 1 cup beef broth
    • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
    • 1 teaspoon dried basil
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 cup whole milk
  • For the Béchamel Sauce:
    • 4 tablespoons butter
    • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    • 4 cups whole milk
    • A pinch of ground nutmeg
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Lasagna:
    • 12 lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions
    • 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese
    • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

  1. Prepare the Bolognese Sauce:
    1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and the onion is translucent.
    2. Add the ground beef and pork. Cook until browned, breaking the meat apart with a wooden spoon.
    3. Pour in the red wine and simmer until reduced by half.
    4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally.
    5. Add the milk and continue to simmer for another 15-20 minutes. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Béchamel Sauce:
    1. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
    2. Add the flour and whisk continuously for about 2 minutes until it forms a smooth paste.
    3. Gradually add the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to cook until the sauce thickens.
    4. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat.
  3. Assemble the Lasagna:
    1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    2. Spread a thin layer of Bolognese sauce on the bottom of a large baking dish.
    3. Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce.
    4. Spread a layer of Bolognese sauce over the noodles, followed by a layer of béchamel sauce.
    5. Sprinkle some mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the sauces.
    6. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of béchamel sauce and a generous topping of cheese.
  4. Bake:
    1. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
    2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling.
  5. Serve:
    1. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.
    2. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
