Bread Pudding Recipe

A warm and comforting dessert, bread pudding is a classic that uses simple ingredients to create a deliciously rich and custardy treat. Perfect for using up stale bread, this recipe is versatile and can be customized with various add-ins like raisins, nuts, or chocolate chips.

  • Bread: 6 cups of cubed stale bread (such as French bread or brioche)
  • Milk: 2 cups
  • Heavy Cream: 1 cup
  • Eggs: 4 large
  • Sugar: 1 cup (can adjust to taste)
  • Vanilla Extract: 2 teaspoons
  • Cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
  • Nutmeg: 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Butter: 2 tablespoons, melted
  • Optional Add-ins: 1/2 cup raisins, chocolate chips, or nuts

  1. Prepare the Bread:
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Place the cubed bread in the prepared baking dish. If you’re using any optional add-ins like raisins, chocolate chips, or nuts, sprinkle them evenly over the bread cubes.
  1. Make the Custard:
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
  1. Combine Bread and Custard:
  • Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread cubes in the baking dish.
  • Press down on the bread cubes gently with the back of a spoon to help them absorb the custard.
  1. Bake the Pudding:
  • Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the bread pudding.
  • Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the custard.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set. A knife inserted into the center should come out clean.
  1. Cool and Serve:
  • Remove the bread pudding from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Serve warm, optionally with a drizzle of caramel sauce, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Enjoy your homemade bread pudding!
