A hearty and comforting dish, this cabbage casserole is perfect for family dinners. It’s packed with nutritious cabbage, flavorful ground meat, and a rich, creamy sauce.

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (10.75 oz) condensed tomato soup
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the cabbage: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the chopped cabbage and cook for about 5 minutes until slightly tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. Prepare the meat mixture: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the ground beef or turkey, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat.
  4. Combine ingredients: In the skillet with the meat mixture, add the diced tomatoes (with juice), condensed tomato soup, uncooked rice, beef broth, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano, and basil. Stir well to combine.
  5. Assemble the casserole: Spread half of the cooked cabbage in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Layer half of the meat and rice mixture over the cabbage. Repeat with the remaining cabbage and the rest of the meat mixture.
  6. Top with cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
  7. Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Serve: Allow the casserole to cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your hearty cabbage casserole!
