Cabbage Fritters Recipe

Cabbage fritters are a delicious and easy-to-make snack or side dish. They are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, making them perfect for any meal or as an appetizer.

  • 2 cups finely shredded cabbage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal (optional for extra crunch)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying

  1. Prepare the Cabbage:
  • Finely shred the cabbage and place it in a large bowl. Sprinkle with a little salt and let it sit for 10 minutes to draw out excess moisture. Then, squeeze the cabbage to remove as much liquid as possible.
  1. Mix the Batter:
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal (if using), baking powder, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  1. Combine Ingredients:
  • Add the finely chopped onion and the squeezed cabbage to the dry ingredients. Mix well to coat the vegetables with the flour mixture.
  1. Add Wet Ingredients:
  • In another bowl, beat the eggs and mix in the milk. Pour this mixture into the cabbage mixture and stir until well combined. The batter should be thick enough to hold together. If it’s too thick, add a bit more milk.
  1. Fry the Fritters:
  • Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, drop spoonfuls of the cabbage mixture into the pan, flattening them slightly with the back of the spoon.
  • Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Make sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  1. Drain and Serve:
  • Remove the fritters from the skillet and drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce or a squeeze of lemon juice.

Enjoy your homemade cabbage fritters!
