Chicken and Green Bean Stir Fry Recipe

A quick and delicious stir fry featuring tender chicken and crisp green beans in a savory sauce. Perfect for a weeknight dinner, this dish is full of flavor and comes together in under 30 minutes.


  • For the Stir Fry:
  • 1 lb (450g) chicken breast, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup bell peppers, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1/2 cup carrots, thinly sliced (optional)
  • For the Sauce:
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar (optional for a sweeter sauce)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for spice)


  1. Prepare the Sauce:
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, chicken broth (or water), cornstarch, and honey (if using). Set aside.
  1. Cook the Chicken:
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the thinly sliced chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  1. Stir Fry the Vegetables:
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  • Add the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Add the onions, green beans, and any optional vegetables (bell peppers, carrots) to the skillet. Stir fry for 3-5 minutes, until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  1. Combine and Finish:
  • Return the cooked chicken to the skillet.
  • Pour the prepared sauce over the chicken and vegetables, stirring well to coat everything evenly.
  • Cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the sauce has thickened and everything is well coated.
  • Drizzle with sesame oil and give it a final stir.

  • Serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired.
