Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined. The batter will be thin, but that’s normal.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the peanut butter frosting. In a mixing bowl, beat together the peanut butter and softened butter until smooth.
  9. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the heavy cream and vanilla extract, beating until the frosting is light and fluffy.
  10. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of peanut butter frosting evenly over the top.
  11. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining peanut butter frosting.
