Classic Banana Pudding Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 box (11 oz) vanilla wafers
  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir for 1 minute. Remove from heat.
  3. In a small bowl, beat the egg yolks slightly. Gradually stir about 1 cup of the hot mixture into the egg yolks. Then, stir the egg mixture back into the remaining hot mixture in the saucepan.
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to boil. Boil and stir for 1 minute. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let cool slightly.
  5. In a 2-quart glass serving dish, layer half of the vanilla wafers, half of the banana slices, and half of the pudding mixture. Repeat layers.
  6. In a medium bowl, beat the heavy cream and powdered sugar with an electric mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form. Spread over the pudding.
