Classic Meatloaf Recipe

This classic meatloaf recipe is a hearty and comforting dish that’s perfect for a cozy family dinner. Packed with savory flavors and topped with a tangy glaze, it’s sure to become a favorite in your household.

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 eggs, beaten

For the glaze:

  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, oregano, salt, pepper, and beaten eggs. Mix until well combined, but avoid overmixing to keep the meatloaf tender.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared loaf pan and gently press it down to form a loaf shape.
  4. In a small bowl, mix together the ingredients for the glaze: ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard. Spread the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the meatloaf is cooked through and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  6. Once cooked, remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute and makes for easier slicing.
  7. Slice the meatloaf and serve warm with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes and green beans. Enjoy!
