Indulge in the ultimate comfort food with this creamy macaroni and cheese recipe. Rich, cheesy, and oh-so-delicious, it’s perfect for a cozy night in or as a crowd-pleasing side dish at your next gathering.

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional)

  1. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour to form a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture is golden brown and fragrant.
  3. Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming. Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt, black pepper, and paprika, if using.
  5. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until well coated.
  6. If desired, transfer the macaroni and cheese to a baking dish and sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over the top.
  7. Broil in the oven for 2-3 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and crispy.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy the creamy, cheesy goodness!
