  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)

For the Caramel Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. While the cakes are cooling, prepare the caramel frosting. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy.
  10. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  11. Beat in the caramel sauce, vanilla extract, and salt. Add the heavy cream, a tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
  12. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate or cake stand. Spread a layer of caramel frosting on top, then drizzle with caramel sauce.
  13. Repeat with the remaining layers, stacking them on top of each other and frosting between each layer.
  14. Use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake. Drizzle with additional caramel sauce for decoration, if desired.
  15. Slice and serve this indulgent caramel cake, and enjoy every delicious bite!
