  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk

For the Frosting:

  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tbsp heavy cream

For the Cookie Crumbles:

  • 1 cup crushed chocolate chip cookies (store-bought or homemade)

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pans:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar:
    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add Eggs and Vanilla:
    • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
    • Mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
    • Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Bake the Cakes:
    • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
    • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
    • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Prepare the Frosting:
    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter until creamy.
    • Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition.
    • Mix in the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract.
    • Add the heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches a spreadable consistency.
  8. Assemble the Cake:
    • Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a generous amount of frosting on top.
    • Sprinkle a handful of crushed chocolate chip cookies over the frosting.
    • Repeat with the second layer.
    • Place the third cake layer on top and frost the entire cake.
  9. Decorate:
    • Press more crushed cookies onto the sides and top of the cake.
    • Optionally, decorate with whole chocolate chip cookies around the bottom edge and on top of the cake.
  10. Chill and Serve:
    • Refrigerate the cake for at least 30 minutes before slicing to set the frosting.
    • Serve chilled or at room temperature and enjoy your Dreamy Milk and Cookies Layer Cake!
