Fish Batter Recipe

A light and crispy batter that complements any type of fish, perfect for frying and achieving that golden, crunchy texture.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water or beer
  • 1 egg (optional, for extra richness)
  • Oil for frying

  1. Prepare the Oil: Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and paprika.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Gradually whisk in the sparkling water or beer until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps. If using, beat in the egg.
  4. Coat the Fish: Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels. Dip each fillet into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.
  5. Fry the Fish: Carefully place the coated fish into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding, cooking each fillet for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Drain and Serve: Remove the fish with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce or a squeeze of lemon.

Enjoy your perfectly battered and fried fish!
