Italian-Style Sloppy Joes Recipe

A delicious twist on the classic sloppy joes, infused with Italian flavors for a savory and satisfying meal.

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 to 6 hamburger buns

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it is no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.
  2. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and diced bell pepper to the skillet with the cooked ground beef. Cook for 5-7 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, dried oregano, and dried basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, to allow the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  5. While the mixture is simmering, toast the hamburger buns under the broiler or in a toaster until lightly golden.
  6. Once the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, spoon the Italian-style sloppy joe mixture onto the toasted hamburger buns.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy your Italian-inspired twist on a classic favorite!
