  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Butter Sauce:

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch bundt pan or tube pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined after each addition.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan, spreading it evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the butter sauce. In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, butter, and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is slightly thickened. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  9. Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  10. Poke holes all over the warm cake using a skewer or fork. Slowly pour the butter sauce over the cake, allowing it to soak in.
  11. Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan before inverting it onto a serving plate.
  12. Slice and serve the Kentucky Butter Cake on its own or with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy this irresistible treat with friends and family!
