Pasta Bolognese Bake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) pasta (such as rigatoni or penne)
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, finely diced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  • 1 can (14 oz / 400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch (23×33 cm) baking dish and set aside.
  2. Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet or saucepan, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Remove any excess fat.
  4. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, diced carrot, and diced celery to the skillet with the cooked beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, and dried basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Allow the sauce to simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it has thickened slightly.
  6. In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the cooked pasta followed by half of the Bolognese sauce. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese and half of the grated Parmesan cheese over the sauce. Repeat the layers with the remaining pasta, sauce, and cheeses.
  7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
