  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 ½ – 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • Cream cheese frosting (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Stir in the granulated sugar, melted butter, cocoa powder, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  3. Gradually add in the flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms. You may not need all the flour.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a 12×18-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  7. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
  8. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle it evenly over the buttered dough.
  9. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll up the dough into a log and pinch the seam to seal.
