Ribeye Steak Recipe

A perfectly seared ribeye steak, juicy and flavorful, cooked to perfection with a simple seasoning of salt, pepper, and garlic butter. Ideal for a special occasion or a delightful weekend dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 ribeye steak (about 1 1/2 inches thick)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preparation:
  • Remove the ribeye steak from the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before cooking to bring it to room temperature. Pat the steak dry with paper towels.
  1. Seasoning:
  • Rub both sides of the steak with olive oil. Generously season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  1. Preheat the Skillet:
  • Place a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed pan over high heat and allow it to get very hot. This usually takes about 5 minutes.
  1. Searing the Steak:
  • Once the skillet is hot, add the steak. Sear without moving it for about 3-4 minutes on one side until a brown crust forms. Flip the steak and sear the other side for another 3-4 minutes.
  1. Adding Flavor:
  • Reduce the heat to medium. Add the crushed garlic, butter, and rosemary or thyme sprigs to the skillet. Tilt the skillet slightly and spoon the melted butter and garlic over the steak continuously for about 1-2 minutes.
  1. Check for Doneness:
  • Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. For medium-rare, the thermometer should read 130-135°F (54-57°C). If the steak needs more cooking, continue to cook it in the skillet, basting with butter, until it reaches the desired doneness.
  1. Resting:
  • Remove the steak from the skillet and transfer it to a cutting board. Let it rest for at least 5 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the steak, ensuring it stays moist and flavorful.
  1. Serving:
  • Slice the steak against the grain and serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh green salad.
