Savory Sausage Balls Recipe

These savory sausage balls are a delightful appetizer or snack, perfect for gatherings or simply enjoying at home. With a crispy exterior and a juicy, flavorful center, they’re sure to be a hit at any event.

  • 1 pound (450g) ground sausage (choose your preferred spice level)
  • 2 cups (200g) sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 1/2 cups (180g) baking mix (such as Bisquick)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional: pinch of cayenne pepper for extra heat

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper for easier cleanup.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, baking mix, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Use your hands or a spoon to thoroughly mix everything together until well combined.
  3. Once the mixture is evenly mixed, start shaping it into small balls, about 1 inch (2.5cm) in diameter. Roll each portion between your palms to form a smooth ball and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the sausage balls are golden brown and cooked through.
  5. Once done, remove the sausage balls from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. They can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
  6. Serve the sausage balls with your favorite dipping sauce, such as barbecue sauce, honey mustard, or ranch dressing, and enjoy!

These sausage balls are best served fresh but can also be reheated in the oven or microwave if you have leftovers. Enjoy!
